El Malecón. When I thought about this street before I arrived in Cuba, I expected a beach promenade crowded by countless bars and cafes. Instead I found a six to eight lane wide highway that is pretty difficult to cross, covered with serious holes that you could disappear in and the edges of the road lined with decayed houses. But that’s what Cuba kind of is – buildings from a time when things were much better, inhabited by people that don’t seem to worry too much. And amongst the ruin, this incredible majestic bird: the Brown Pelican. A wonderful flying artist who fits perfectly in this place full of character.

It’s great to watch the pelican fishing. Unfortunately, from time to time these birds seem to be fated by fishing line.  Note this pelican below, with fishing line around the wing.  He’s a lucky one to still be alive.

In the water, the pelican shows off it’s spectacular fishing talents.
